My initial reaction on being asked to review the free DesignEvo online logo maker was "what's the catch?"
To use the logo maker for free you have to share a link to DesignEvo on your social media, blog or website which pretty much rules out using this tool for anything other than hobby sites or people who want to knock up a demo and replace it later on with something more professional.
Most online software like DesignEvo lets you get so far with your design and then suddenly springs the "you can't save this file" surprise on you just as you are finishing up or leaves you with a useless watermarked version that you have to pay to remove the watermark. But this isn't the case with DesignEvo, and it is indeed a completely free tool to use as long as you are prepared to share the link.
Now, the cynical among you will already be jumping to the conclusion that if it's free, then it can't be any good and that isn't the case either. It's both free and useful.
Sometimes you have to accept that people make things and offer them free to help other people. After all, that's the sentiment behind the Open Source movement, and I wouldn't be without tools like Filezilla FTP, Livezilla Live Chat and Open Office all of which are entirely free to download and use.
DesignEvo is also much more than a logo maker. You can use it to make graphics for your social media pages, and you could even press it into service to create supporting graphics for your blog or eCommerce store.
Using this tool you'll be able to produce a professional logo design in around an hour. It may not be exactly what you want but for small business start-ups and new eCommerce stores, it will fit the bill until you can afford to get your perfect creation made by a professional designer.
- Over one million icons available to search through.
- Hundreds of text fonts and shapes to choose from.
- Freely customize a logo with powerful editing tools.
There are over 3,000 customisable templates for you to choose from and so the hardest job you are going to have is making a shortlist of designs from which to work!
Also, choose from over a million icons and hundreds of stylish text fonts and word arts when you choose your company name and slogan.
Some of the clip art used is very basic and some icons belong back in the 1990's but with some patience and a bit of research, you should be able to make something perfectly serviceable in a short time. there are options to make your logo transparent or colour fill the background using a hex colour code.
There are plenty of font choices but not so many that will have you stuck in a paralysis of choice and a nice preview option so you can see how your logo is progressing.
