Having a professional graphic designer go to work on your logo and website design is the best way to end up with a great looking site, but it also costs money, and the best graphic designers are not cheap.

When you start blogging to build traffic to your eCommerce store, then you'll want to add plenty of imagery to your posts to break up the text and make it more comfortable for web viewing.

But if you've ever tried searching for “free stock photography” then you'll know that separating the wheat from the chaff is a laborious process of hit and miss. Those “free” sites turn out to be not so free after all, and you can waste hours looking for a single suitable image.

Some Great Free Image Resources

To help you find stock photography quickly and efficiently, I've compiled the following resources which are mostly free or inexpensive ways to add beautiful photography and images to your website.

It just got a whole lot easier to keep regularly adding content without it ever becoming dull!

Image Licenses

First of all, before you dive in and start grabbing images, let's have a quick discourse about image licenses.

If you want to use a particular image, then you can buy it from one of the commercial stock photo suppliers like Shutterstock or istockphoto.

Buying the image is no guarantee that it won't show up on someone else's website however as they are sold on a “non-exclusive” contract basis but you can use them in an unlimited number of projects and any media.

Many of the “free” resources that I'm about to list will need no attribution or acknowledgement of where you obtained the image, but it's always worth reading the terms and conditions of each site to make sure you know you are not going to be in copyright infringement.

Creative Commons Zero means that you are free to do with the image what you like and you don't need to give author acknowledgement.

Creative Commons Attribution means that you need to credit the author of the image. You can do this by placing a simple text link under the photo with a link to the author site.

If in doubt give image attribution.

Stockvault has a massive library of free stock images, and it's searchable too. Many of the smaller image libraries offer great photography, but sometimes it can take a while to find what you want without a search function. Images are also sorted into categories to make them easier to find.

Finding stock images

I am a blogger, and I believe that my readers like seeing audio-visual content with little text. It was a great pleasure to find free images that can be incorporated in my blog-posts without any copyright risk.
